DOXNET 2009 – Conference & Exhibition
Good results: Attendance stabilized compared to the level of the previous year in spite of the economic crisis.
DDOXNET – The Document X-perts Network e.V. continues to write its success story: In the tenth year of existence the 11th Conference & Exhibition took place once again in the Congress House in Baden-Baden from June 22nd till 24th. This event acted again as a draw for all of the people who wanted, as a user or solution provider in the field of document management, to “network” to the heart’s content. Because this is still our goal: “We want to work together to achieve more!”
This is the way Peter Dehm, chairman of the association, got it to the point at his address of welcome of the round about 540 participants on the first Conference and Exhibition day. With this awesome number of conference participants the level of the previous year was achieved, which is worth of recognition against the background of the current economic crisis. Not on the previous years’ level but once again further increased has the number of the DOXNET members. The exact number, counted on the first day of Conference, was 566 people. For comparison: In 2000 there were 84 members.
DOXNET head Dehm used the opportunity to say thank you – this is because all activities of the entrepreneurial association are managed by volunteers. His board colleagues Karl-Toni Gayer (Swiss Post Solutions GmbH) as well as Stefan Hunkeler (Hunkeler AG, Schweiz) were responsible for the part of the DOXNET exhibition in Baden-Baden. They were supported by Lothar Bibus (Océ Deutschland GmbH), who managed the organization of the booths. The trio attended to the round about 40 exhibitors, which offered their services on nearly 700 square meter presentation space in the Congress House in Baden-Baden.
The board members Günter G. Müller (DB Print GmbH) and Uwe Seltmann (icon Systemhaus GmbH) took the responsibility for the Conference-part. The duo arranged the speakers program out of unbelievable 29 single lectures and had the right touch with the repertory of interesting topics. There were many user- and manufacturer lectures in the two “auditoriums” of the Congress House Baden-Baden. Special highlights were the educating lecture of keynote speaker Dr. Rolf Bay about the question “Happiness: Coincidence or manageable?” as well as the – in good fun- speech of “Dr. Jens Wegmann” from the “Institute for Print Process Optimization” based in “Bad Lippspringe” about the topic “100 percent customer satisfaction with the HDDIG-Method”. Wegmann is in real life the Cologne cabaret artist Jan Ditgen. He performed between two serious lectures business cabaret at its finest and had all the laughs on his side
According to the chairman Peter Dehm, the marketing team with the second chairwoman Gabriele Grosse (Rechenzentrum Schulte GmbH), secretary Rainer Rindfleisch (Kern GmbH) as well as Stephan Schumann (Lasertec Print & Mail) has significantly contributed to the success of the 11th. DOXNET Conference & Exhibition. They pushed this event very eagerly – and they were supported by Heinz-Georg Schulte (Rechenzentrum Schulte GmbH), who was highly appreciated by Peter Dehm: His company did a lot of unpaid Back Office-work for the association.
Peter Dehm and Reinhard Müller (RM Consult) represented together the organization team, which was responsible for the details .Peter Dehm did not want to thank himself – but this was done by others. The representative DOXNET- chairwoman Gabriele Grosse and secretary Rainer Rindfleisch, on behalf of the DOXNET board of directors, gave him credit for his commitment. In return of this he received a cookery course with celebrity chef Alfons Schubeck – associated with the hope of “a dinner invitation for the entire DOXNET board of directors.”
One invitation was extended by Dehm immediately. Because after a DOXNET Conference & Exhibition is before a DOXNET. For this reason he invited all this year’s participants to the next year or the next years. The board of directors reserved the Congress House Baden-Baden for the following dates: 06/21-06/23 2010, 06/20-06/22 2011, 06/25-06/27 2012 as well as 06/17-06/19 2013.
But there are also some possibilities of a reunion in this year. For example at the fair DMS (Digital Management Solutions, 09/15-09/17 2009 in Cologne) within a DOXNET “Round Table” on 9/15/09. Furthermore the DOXNET e.V. will accept an invitation of Böwe Systec Austria GmbH based in Vienna and will organize a “Vor-Ort-event” at the Castle Schlaining on September, 24./25.

„Godfather” Johan Hooglander honors “founding father” Rainer Rindfleisch
When the German Rainer Rindfleisch is considered to be the „founding father“of the now as DOXNET e.V. performing association of Document Managers, than the Dutch Johan Hooglander is his “godfather”.
Hooglander came on the occasion of the tenth “birthday” of the “The Document X-perts Network” to the 11th DOXNET Conference & Exhibition in Baden-Baden to honor – representing all the other members – Mr. Rindlfeisch.
Hooglander reminded of the beginning of the association, which originally arose from a worldwide operating association with the registered office in the USA and which became recently independent under a new name. With a 2000 Dollar start-up aid from the USA he and Rainer Rindfleisch had cleared the way for the idea of the “networking” of users and solution providers from the field of Document Management. But there were also some backlashes, which Hooglander presented with a smile. For example the opening of a bank account at a bank in Wiesbaden failed, because the association was not yet a “registered association”.
Fortunately those and other obstacles have been taken long time ago and DOXNET, or the predecessor organization, became in the German speaking region a success story.
The guest from the Netherlands commended the “inspiring administration” of the association by Peter Dehm and confirmed the board of directors that they are on the right track with this way of the association’s management: “They work in small groups, which do their tasks reliable – this is the formula for success.”

Keynote speaker Dr. Rolf Bay against the “Drag of the happiness”
„G“Happiness is like a custom-made suit – the unhappy person is who wears the one of another!” That hit home – some of the DOXNET-participants didn’t know whether to laugh or to cry about this central statement under the headline “Happiness: Coincidence or manageable? But he is right, this Dr. Rolf Bay, who had to do the oratorical icebreaker as a keynote speaker at the recent conference – and he performed his task with flying colors
In front of over 500 participants in the Congress House Baden-Baden the profile coach gave a 45 minutes excursus on the occasion of the prelude of the recent DOXNET Conference and Exhibition, which was entertaining as well as worth knowing. This excursus was about the individual happiness and showed quite plainly what happiness is not. The availability of plenty money for instance does not result always happiness, said Bay, because: “Poverty starts in the soul – and not in the wallet.” Instead of that the referee advised the audience to try it once with thankfulness: “Check your imaginary list of persons you wanted all the times to call and to appreciate them – I know that you have such a list. And then really call them.” This makes then exactly two people happy – the one who say thank you and the one who was appreciated.
Keynote speaker Dr. Rolf Bay mentioned to his audience “the drags”, which want to bar the people from their happiness. This is, amongst others, the attitude: “My life takes place in the future.” The smile you could see on the DOXNET audience’s faces made clear that many of them know from their own experience on what Bay hinted at: “There are many people who think that their life is a rehearsal – and they do not realize that the show has already started.” The beginning of the sentence “I will be happy, when…” is the result of this. But Bay warned: “Your life takes place in the presence, not in the future.” Who finds consolidation in the future, do not notices the happiness, „even not if it is on your doorstep and knocks on the door”.
But who realized the “drags of the happiness” in its life, this person has to immediately “disbar the drags”, advised Bay and gave a recommendation: “Do not compare yourself with others!” This leads only to a permanent dissatisfaction because if you try to be “happier than the others” you will definitely fail – there is always a person who is obviously happier than you. Bay: “When are you happy enough? When you decide for yourself that it is now sufficient.” The keynote speaker got it to the point: “It is better to be a ‘local hero’ than a ‘global loser’!” Who realizes this, enables oneself to escape out of the “treadmill of status and expectations”.
Generally speaking: “We have to control our negative thoughts.” This only can happen with the use of activities – and this makes sense, too. Happiness researchers found out, according to Bays statements, that 50% of the ability to be happy is genetically determined, so it is not possible to influence it. “But further 10% are determined due to general conditions and 40% due to intentional behavior patterns” Therefore Bay recommends: „Get active! “Because: “Think about what is more annoying if you review your previous life: Things you did and which ended up in being wrong? Or those things you had not done?” His answer matched with the audience’s general experience of life: Normally you are annoyed about missed opportunities – happiness is linked to action. In fact not linked to actions of others, but to yours.
General statements of Dr.Rolf Bay:
Ban those three drags to get permanent happiness:
- Live for the future! The meaning of life is to live for today. Do not say: “It will not work right now, because…”
- Do not compare yourself with others! The “comparison” stops the happiness and opens the door to dissatisfaction. Escape out of the treadmill of status.
- Ban the brooding and worries! Why should you be unhappy today, if it is next day possible to be happy? Worries are interests on problems, which do not even exist right now. De-worry yourself.
Activate those four talismans for your permanent happiness:
- Be grateful! You have to write five objectives weekly, for which you are grateful. Thankfulness brings happiness – not vice versa.
- Be optimistic! Optimists have decided for themselves to face the life with a positive attitude. Optimism strengthens your self-confidence and your reliance.
- Create social ties and foster them! Nobody is a lonesome island. Create yourself a durable net for the balancing act on the high wire of the life.
- Set goals wisely! Goals are lighthouses of the life. Written goals help to make your dreams come true.

Cabaret artist as keynote speaker:
Actor Jan Ditgen, performing as “Dr.Jens Wegmann”, makes the DOXNET family laugh
The agenda of the DOXNET Conference identifies him as “Dr. Jens Wegmann”, his employer be the “Institute for Print Process Optimization” based in “Bad Lippspringe”. DOXNET board member Guenter G. Mueller, who assumed the role of the moderator during the part of the conference, has contributed significantly to prove the credibility of the “keynote speaker’s” performance. The audience expected an”extremely important speech” about a topic “which is interesting for all of us: It deals with customer satisfaction”. But what follows indeed satisfied the audience – in fact overwhelmingly – however the lecture, announced as a user speech, emerged as a skillful performance of the Cologne actor Jan Ditgen.
The mimic of the “Good Vibrations Theater” provided the audience with a business cabaret at its finest: Jan Ditgen is one of the few cabaret artists who are not afraid of creating a special program for business events. His inventive lecture is always tailored to the respective business or branch.
At the DOXNET-event the hosts had placed this Mr. Dr. Jens Wegmann between two serious real existing document managers. His topic was “100 percent customer satisfaction with the HDDIG-Method” – what translated into English means: “The essence is that the pressure is good.” With this statement Dr. Jens Wegmann presented himself as an expert in this subject and reduced the essence to a denominator: “It’s all about the turnover.”
The fake expert pursued the question when the customer is satisfied and he had already a competent answer for this: “When the costumer exactly that receives, what he wants!” But: “What he wants you have to figure it out by yourself.” Wegmann had all sorts of proverbs at the ready, which should help you out solve this question. For instance one from the Ukraine: “A bag without a handle is very heavy – but it would be too pity to just leave it there.” He was really into a Swabian worldly wisdom: “If you drive a donkey in front of you, you have to put up with its fart.”
A couple of witty stories and staged breakdowns later, and simultaneously to the show, the cocktail mixing and confetti throwing speaker turned into the “Power-Man”. With this he initiated, with a quite friendly insult, the big finale: “I love to work with motivated, intelligent and good looking people – but today it was also a pleasure to me”.
If you want to get more information about Jan Ditgen alias “Dr. Jens Wegmann” you can find it on his website: www.comedy-redner.de. His list of references reaches from A like Allianz to Z like Zeiss and can be seen as a “Who’s who” of the German economy.

Networking between main course and dessert at the racetrack
You should not eavesdrop other’s conversation. Because of this we do not reveal the names of the acting persons for the protection of their privacy and their business interests – nevertheless the story is true. The story represents in a typical way the activities of DOXNET – The Document X-perts Network e.V. – and the general issue: “Networking”.
The contact between the two persons came about at dinner after this year’s DOXNET –evening-event at the racetrack in Iffezheim. After the main course, shortly before the dessert, two gentlemen sitting accidentally side by side started a conversation. One of them is CEO of a German company dealing in the broadest sense with the processing of print data – the other one is the general manager of an European subsidiary of an American printer manufacturer.
After the introduction the two started a conversation. In doing so they discover that they have the same business interests: The German is surprised that his conversational partner could be a suitable contact partner acting as a “door opener” into the US corporation – up to now the both of them did not know about each other. Now, shortly before the cheese cake, the two exchange their business cards – exactly this is DOXNET. This form of networking was also at the 11th Conference & Exhibition the basic element. For both of the gentlemen the participation at the Conference & Exhibition was already worth it because of this successful business contact.

General meeting:
Approved team is again on the top, in the lawsuit about trademark right still no end in sight
Elections to the board and a progress report about the legal disputes concerning the rights on the name of DOXNET’s predecessor organization took center stage of the recent general meeting of the „The Document X-perts Network e.V.“ This well attended meeting took place on the last day of the event of the Conference & Exhibition in the Congress Center in Baden-Baden. With a big majority the executive committee, acting already for several election periods in this composition, was once again re-elected.
The article of association states that the meeting of members has to determine every two years, within a secret election, eleven actors as board members. The elected persons assign then the positions of the chairman and his representative, the secretary, the treasurer as well as the seven assessors.
Peter Dehm (T-Systems DDM GmbH) will be also in the next two years the head of the board. His representative is once again Gabriele Grosse (Rechenzentrum Schulte GmbH). Uwe Seltmann (icon Systemhaus GmbH) acts still as the treasurer in the executive committee. Rainer Rindfleisch (Kern GmbH) remains in the position as the secretary. With this election the positions are distributed equitably within the managing quartet on the top of the association: Dehm and Grosse come from the field of document management technology users and Seltmann and Rindfleisch represent the solution providers.
Harald Eichhorn (HUK-Coburg), Karl Toni Gayer (Swiss Post Solutions GmbH), Stefan Hunkeler (Hunkeler AG), Günter G. Müller (DB Print GmbH), Reinhard Müller (RM Consult), Stephan Schumann (Lasertec IT-Services) - and as successor for Christoph Hees (R+V Allgemeine Versicherung AG) - Robert Herele (Allianz Shared Infrastructure Services SE) will act as the assessors. Except for Herele instead of Hees nothing has changed concerning the formation of the assessors. Hees stopped running for the executive committee after round about a decade of cooperation. Chairman Peter Dehm appreciated his colleague as a “loyal prime father” of the association and thanked him sincerely for the commitment. Thomas Rohs (Pitney Bowes Deutschland GmbH) as well as Ralf Kolsen (Böwe Systec Group) ran at the meeting of members for the board of directors but could not get enough votes.
In the statement of accounts of DOXNET-head Peter Dehm dominated the subject trademark right dispute. There is still a lawsuit pending with the Hamburg District Court dealing with the rights on the name of the antecessor organization. As is known the renaming of the association to „The Document X-perts Network e.V.“ is a result of a dispute with the new rights owner concerning the old logo. It was not agreed on an expensive settlement offered by the opposition because Dehm and his team are afraid that the exasperating matter would then still be not over – the DOXNET-actors require therefore a final judgment. Currently the by the court assigned Max-Planck-Institute develop an expertise. Dehm: “This can take a lot of time”
More pleasant was the statement of accounts of the DOXNET treasurer Uwe Seltmann. He let the members know: “The economic crisis is in our association no issue.” Thanks to “loyal members and successful events” Seltmann could present the association as a stable performing “corporation” with sufficient “hidden reserves”. But the treasurer pointed to the fact that “we are not a small association with a few bookings anymore”. Seltmann and the Back-Office-Team of his company have to handle several hundred bookings and the accounting has shifted now from an Excel-based version to an Online-system. Seltmann: “This was the right step; we have to arrange us like a commercial enterprise.”
The cash auditors Hubert Spangenberg (HSW GmbH) and Guido Schnepp (CRE-DO GmbH) attested Seltmann a perfect bookkeeping and applied for a discharge from liability to the Management Board for the business year 2008 – This was decided unanimously by the meeting of members.
The meeting created also a framework for tribute. Peter Dehm, who refers himself as a “hobby statistician”, figured out, during an analysis of the participants at the meeting of members in the last years that Heinz-Georg Schulte (Rechenzentrum Schulte GmbH) is with 88 percent attendance a notably loyal conventioneer. He is followed by Hubert Spangenberg (HSW GmbH) with 75 percent and Harald Grumser (Compart AG) with 63 percent.
The application of member Gert Spitzmüller, which was about the possibility to discontinue the transfer of voting rights in the run-up to the elections and to allow absentee votes, was rejected by the meeting of members with a big majority. The application of the management board about the implementation of a business membership with 15 people, which costs 1950 Euro per year, was applied. This should close the gap between the business membership 10 and 25.
